BPI Building Analyst Certification

A Building Analyst understands the principles of building science, energy conservation and effective energy retrofitting. BPI website

If you are new to weatherization (WX):

  1. Order and study the Residential Energy textbook from Saturn Resources,  which provides a strong foundation for learning single family residence analysis.
  2. Successful certification candidates will be knowledgeable and skilled in the following topic areas:
    • Blower Door & Pressure Diagnostics
    • Combustion Safety for Weatherization
    • Envelope Measures: Air Sealing & Insulation
    • Moisture Control & Ventilation Strategies
    • Introductory Auditor
    • Duct System Testing & Duct System Repair
    • Base-load Measures
    • Electrical Hazard Identification
    • Heating Systems & Diagnostics
    • Mobile Home Retrofits
  3. Get certified by signing up for the BPI Building Analyst Certification. See a list of courses and certifications to register.

If you are currently working in weatherization:

  1. take the following BPC courses:
    • Blower Door & Pressure Diagnostics
    • Combustion Safety for Weatherization
    • Envelope Measures: Air Sealing/Insulation
    • Moisture Control and Ventilation Strategies
    • Building Analyst Refresher (certification specific review)
  2. current or renewing BPI certified professionals:
    • Check your BPI and Continuing Education Units (CEU) certification status: BPI login.
    • Sign up for certification by taking the BPI Written Exam and BPI Field Exam.

Online Lead RRP (Renovation, Repair and Painting) and Hands-On Classes!

  1. Sign up for the classroom portion of the training through a State-approved online provider (cost for the online class is $100.00).  Register for the online class, please click here
  2. Once registered for the online class, you will work through the classroom requirements online, using your own computer and working at your own pace.
  3. After successful completion of the online classroom training, you are ready to sign up for the 3-hour hands-on training at the BPC or one of our affiliates in Olympia or Spokane (the RRP Certification Exam will follow the hands-on training).  You will need to bring proof of successful completion of the online class your hands-on class.  Scheduled Hands-On dates can be found on our courses page. We recommend you take the hands-on training and Certification Exam as soon after completing the online learning as possible

Lead Safe Work Practices: EPA RRP, WA State, HUD

This 1-day class both trains and certifies you for RRP (Renovator, Repair and Painting) Lead Safe Work Practices. Whether you’re a painting contractor, property manager, maintenance professional or building owner, you need to stay on top of lead safe certification requirements. Review scheduled courses here.

Lead Safe Weatherization: WA State, EPA RRP, HUD

This 2-day class combines the 1-day Lead Safe Work Practices course with an additional day of Lead Safe Weatherization instruction and practice that imparts the skills required by the Washington state low-income network requirement for all weatherization workers who will work on houses with lead paint.
